I was struck over the weekend by the golf channel special about Tom Watson's caddie Bruce Edwards entitled, Caddie For Life. During the interview Tom Watson described his relationship with Bruce Edwards as part cheering section, part advisor, part friend and part butt kicker!
As he reminisced about several events, he spoke specifically about one in which Tom wanted to play conservative and asked for the distance for a lay up. Bruce responded it's 200 yards. Tom, replied "No, what is the yardage to lay up." After several heated exchanges, Edwards through a wedge and a 6 iron on the ground and said, it's 120 yards!
This incident reminded me that I am not really a Coach, per se, but rather a "Business Caddie." I am not the executor of the play, but the advisor, the guy who is there with you every week (round) pushing, advising and kicking butt when necessary. I am in it with you. Your success is my success....
